Preparing for Eye Surgery
LASIK and other forms of eye surgery can be very stressful. The results of the surgery involve not just the skill of the surgeon and the ability of the advanced technology but also the patient’s level of anxiety. A nervous stressed LASIK patient is much more difficult to operate on than a LASIK patient that is relazed and cooperative. Other forms of eye surgery can be equally challenging if a patient is having difficult because of high levels of anxiety.
Whether you are from San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland or Walnut Creek, the idea of having surgery on your eye naturally makes us all nervous. Yet increased anxiety is detrimental to the entire process. It can cause measurements of pupil size and glasses prescription to become inaccurate. It can make complying with instructions more difficult. It can also have a negative effect on the healing process.
Turner Eye Institute realizes that a LASIK patient’s level of anxiety is very important. We therefore decided to team up with Dr. JoAnn Dahlkoetter in providing a strong program to provide total support for both mind and body during the surgery process. Dr. Dahlkoetter has had success in working with professional athletes and her understanding of eye surgery, being a patient herself, provides a perfect opportunity to design a program for LASIK patients.
We are excited by the new program and are encouraged that it will provide greater success to our LASIK patients.
