Selecting correct LASIK technology in San Jose

San Jose LASIK patients have several choices when it comes to LASIK eye surgery.  There are a number of factors to consider when finding a LASIK surgeon.  While the LASIK surgeon is certainly the most important choice and experience and skill are essential for excellent outcomes in LASIK surgery, it is also important that the correct equipment be utilized.

Dr. Turner has been performing LASIK surgery in San Jose since it was FDA approved and available.  He is among the most experienced surgeons in the country and has performed tens of thousands of procedures throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose.  Dr. Turner’s credentials are certainly above par.

In addition to the LASIK surgeon, we must consider the technology that is available in the LASIK market in San Jose.  Turner Eye Insitute continually maintains itself at the forefront in LASIK technology in order to provide the highest quality care for patients.  All our equipment has been FDA approved and is maintained at the highest level of quality according to the requirements set forth by the manufacturer.

Turner Eye Institute has two excimer laser systems available for use: AMO Visx Star S4 with custom treatments, Ladarvision with Custom treatment.  Both of these systems are FDA approved and are considered excellent laser systems.  At this point, Dr. Turner is performing the majority of treatments using the VISX excimer laser system.

In San Jose, our patients have many options available to them in refractive care.  Here are a few of the options available through our offices in San Jose, San Francisco, San Leandro, and Concord:

Wavefront LASIK - This newest procedure is generally preferred over conventional LASIK in almost all cases.  San Jose patients can expect a higher level of accuracy and improved vision by using this procedure.  Wavefront LASIK (also called Custom LASIK) uses an advanced aberrometer to measure the complete optical system and develop an excimer laser profile that is customized to the individual patient’s eye.

Epi-LASEK - This laser treatment is similar to PRK and is considered an advanced form of surface ablation.  Epi-LASEK is selected in cases where standard LASIK or wavefront LASIK might not be considered best for the patient.

TF LASIK - Thin Flap LASIK - Dr. Turner has personally developed thin flap LASIK to provide the thinnest, safest, and most accurate LASIK that is possible with a microkeratome.  Thin Flap LASIK is only available at Turner Eye Institute.  San Jose LASIK patients can expect the best possible treatment results through thin flap LASIK.

Iris Registration - One of the newest advancements in LASIK treatment is the ability to capture and track the movement of the iris prior to LASIK surgery.  This new LASIK technology allows more accurate treatments and is very important in cases of astigmatism or when using custom LASIK (wavefront LASIK).  Without iris registration, the eye can rotate slightly prior to LASIK eye surgery causing the laser profile to match incorrectly with the patient’s optical system.  Iris registration adjust for the inaccuracy, allowing the patient to receive the correct treatment as it was intended and calculated.

Intralase - In some cases, Dr. Turner will recommend using intralase.  This form of LASIK relies upon the use of a laser instead of a blade to make the flap.  Sometimes called bladeless LASIK, Intralase has had a high level of success.  San Jose patients who desire LASIK can make an appointment through Turner Eye Institute but must travel to our San Leandro clinic for treatment.  Dr. Turner will personally perform the treatment.

Visian - In addition to LASIK, Turner Eye Institute offers treatments that other LASIK clinic do not offer.  Dr. Turner is specialized in a wide variety of procedures and is capable of providing better option than LASIK in some cases.  Patients with high prescriptions, thin corneas, irregular corneas, or dry eyes might not be good candidates for LASIK or might receive better results through Visian.  Visian ICL is an implantable contact lens that offers improved vision without some of the risks that are inherent in LASIK eye surgery.

Turner Eye Institute has been providing the highest quality of eye surgery and eye care for 30 years.  The quality of service leads to a high number of in-patient referrals from happy patients.  If you would like to make an appointment with Turner Eye Institute contact us and make an appointment.  We would be happy to provide any information necessary to make the correct decisions regarding LASIK or other treatments.
