Eye and Vision Problems
Near sightedness
Near-sightedness is very common. Near-sightedness is caused by an eyeball that is too long or a cornea that is too curved. This results in vision that is blurry in the distance but clear at near. People that are very highly near-sighted must hold an object very close before it is clear. Some people use glasses or contact lenses to treat this problem. Other people find these to be inconvenient and prefer the greater convenience with a surgical treatment.
Available treatments at Turner Eye Institute :
- Custom LASIK
- TF LASIK
- PRK
- Visian (Implantable Contact Lens) – An excellent option for people who are not good LASIK candidates because of high amounts of near-sightedness, thin or irregular corneas, or dry eyes.
Far sightedness
Far sightedness is sometimes confused with presbyopia (aging eyes). It is caused by an eyeball that is too short or a cornea that is too flat. Far-sightedness causes near vision to be worse than distance vision. Often both near and far are blurry.Available treatments at Turner Eye Institute :
- Custom LASIK
- LASIK
- PRK
Presbyopia (Aging Eyes)
As people age, their ability to focus up close decreases. By age 40 or 45, most people start needing glasses to read. Some people see clearly in the distance but can’t read or see up close. This is caused by the aging of the lens inside of the eye. Some people use bifocal or reading glasses to help with this problem.
Available treatments at Turner Eye Institute :
- Monovision LASIK
- Crystalens
- ReStor
- ReZoom
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. It is less round and more oval in shape. This causes distortion of vision at all distances.

- Custom LASIK
- LASIK
- PRK
- Cataracts
Cataracts
In addition to presbyopia, the lens inside the eye can become cloudy with age. This causes colors to be less vibrant and will decrease vision. This cannot be treated with glasses or contact lenses and requires surgery.
