LASIK Results in San Francisco and San Francisco Bay Area

Frequently our lasik and cataract patients ask about the success of our procedures to decide if they would choose Dr. Stephen Turner as their LASIK surgeon. They want proof that Dr. Turner is the best LASIK surgeon in the San Francisco Bay Area or San Jose. Many want direct evidence that LASIK results of Dr. Turner will exceed those of other LASIK doctors.

Recently a patient asked if we were a member of the CRSQA (Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance). Dr. Turner is not a member of CRSQA (Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance). CRSQA is not a medical organization. CRSQA is not certified as a medical organization and does not have government credentials to demonstrate that it is an acceptable medical organization. It is a private company that requires a high annual fee to become a member. While it there are minimum established guidelines for becoming a member of CRSQA, the required LASIK outcomes are set with very low standards so very few surgeons would be excluded. Since it is not a medical organization, LASIK surgeons that utilize this organization are intending to use it for marketing and not for monitoring their results. CRSQA does not wish to exclude LASIK surgeons who would be willing to pay their yearly fees.

Dr. Turner’s surgical results certainly exceed the minimum requirements of CRSQA and he would have no difficulty joining this organization if he chose to. At this time Turner Eye Institute is not considering joining CRSQA. LASIK results at TEI are among the best in the community. LASIK patients from San Francisco and San Jose are very pleased with the LASIK results that they receive.

CRSQA requires the following minimum results from LASIK surgeons for their LASIK patients:

  • Not less than 85% of applicant’s refractive surgery patients must achieve results within +- 1.0 diopter of stated refractive target.
  • Not less than 50% of applicant’s refractive surgery patients must achieve results within +- 0.5 diopter of stated refractive target.
  • Not more than 3% of applicant’s monitored refractive surgery patients may report debilitating refractive surgery complications such as glare, haze, halo, etc.
  • Not more than 0.5% of applicant’s monitored refractive surgery patients may experience vision-threatening postoperative complications.

LASIK patients at Turner Eye Institute certainly exceed these standards. Turner Eye Institute LASIK patients coming from San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Concord, or other areas can expect the highest quality LASIK treatment and excellent service. Satisfaction levels for patients having LASIK eye surgery at Turner Eye Institute are much higher than other LASIK eye centers.
